Bafana beat Seychelles 6 – 0
Bafana record their biggest win
Saturday 13 October Bafana met Seychelles in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the FNB Stadium for a resounding home win.
The hosts were impressive across the park. Special mention must be made of the fantastic combination between Tau and Mothiba that terrorized the Indian Oceaner’s defense throughout the game!
SA were dominant from the first blow of the whistle, but didn’t find the back of the net till the 23rd minute. After the deadlock was broken the flood gates opened and Bafana found the net 2 more times within 4 minutes.
At the break South Africa had a comfortable 3 goal lead.
The second half was much the same. RSA had the majority of the possession. It was not until the 74th minute that Bafana found the net again. Tau with a left foot effort to take the score to 4 – 0. Goals from Ndlovu in the 81st and Mokoena in stoppage time helped the home side to an impressive victory.
Coach Stuart Baxter was no doubt left impressed by his teams possession, pressure and territory dominance. However he is keeping his eye on the future and will no doubt not get carried away too soon.
Bafana played with confidence and passion, and it is no doubt heartening for the supporters to see their side moving the ball around. Players are settling in comfortably and PSL stars who have shined within the Absa premier league finally take that form to the international stage.
Next up for Bafana
RSA meet the Seychelles in the return fixture at the Stade Linite on Tuesday 16 October. The game will kick off at 15:30 local time.
Baxter will be hoping that the dominant performance was not a flash in the pan. He will no doubt look to build on the weekends performance and edge closer to qualifying.
