Bafana draw with Seychelles
Bafana draw with the Seychelles
After their resounding 6 – 0 Victory over the same opposition a week earlier. South Africa were unable to find the same form when the two sides played out to stale 0 – 0 draw.
Bafana traveled from South Africa to meet their Indian Ocean opponents at the Stade Linite on Tuesday afternoon.
The game was dull with very few highlights.
Bafana clearly over confident from their drubbing of the same opponents, arrived looking like a team that simply expected to take a very easy three points home.
The East African Islanders were in a defiant mood, and South Africa will be kicking themselves knowing they could have taken a huge step toward qualifying with those 3 points.
Next up for Bafana is Nigeria
South Africa will need to put the same resolute performance together against Nigeria that they managed when the met the Seychelles at home. And try to get the maximum amount of points from the game.
No doubt it will be the toughest challenge in qualifying that RSA will face. The teams face off on Friday 16 November, venue yet to be announced.
Standings After 4 games played
Bafana draw to Seychelles leaves them in second spot in Group E, 1 point behind group leaders Nigeria. South Africa will look for maximum points and a move to the top of the group. Currently Bafana have the goal advantage and one point will assist in qualifying.
While Bafana can only blame themselves for the lack of effort and poor performance in front of goals, they cannot afford to harp on the game, and need to get back on track as soon as possible.
Coach Baxter will be in no mood for excuses and rightly so as he will be held liable for the success or lack of success around qualification.
Nigeria versus South Africa venue is still to be announced.
